Hello, Wanderlust Travelers!

This month’s Destination Spotlight is one that truly feels like stepping onto another planet: Iceland. My family and I recently traveled around the island by driving the Ring Road, and every turn offered something new: towering waterfalls, glaciers glistening in the sun, black sand beaches, and endless sheep and horses roaming free. The landscapes shift so dramatically that you can feel like you’re in multiple worlds all within a single day.

What makes Iceland even more special is how seamlessly modern hotels blend into the natural scenery, designed with warm touches, and nature at their core. And then, of course, there are the geothermal hot springs, the perfect place to relax after a day of adventure.

Iceland is a destination built for hands-on experiences—glacier hiking, RIB boat tours, lava shows, whale watching, and in the cooler months, ice caves, northern lights, and snowmobiling. It’s a place for everyone: families, solo travelers, or even honeymooners looking for something adventurous. The people are welcoming, the towns feel authentic and local, and the food is fresh and full of surprises. One of the most unique meals we had was lunch inside a greenhouse tomato farm, a memory we’ll always treasure.

If Iceland is on your travel radar, it’s a destination that requires careful planning. With limited hotel space, high demand for excursions, and seasonal experiences that book up quickly, planning well in advance is key. Whether you’re dreaming of a family adventure, a romantic escape, or a once-in-a-lifetime solo journey, I’m here to design an itinerary that captures all the magic Iceland has to offer.

Check it out and let me know what you think!

THIS MONTH'S DREAM DESTINATION: ICELAND

Travel to Iceland. The most epic country for traveling.
Iceland is a land of contrasts—where glaciers, volcanoes, waterfalls, and black sand beaches create scenery that feels almost otherworldly. Most travelers arrive through Keflavík International Airport (KEF), located just outside the capital city of Reykjavik. The island can be experienced year-round, but summer months are best for road trips like the famous Ring Road, when long daylight hours make driving easier and nearly all regions are accessible. In the winter months, while some roads close due to snow and ice, it’s the perfect season for ice caves, snowmobiling, and northern lights adventures.

Iceland operates on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), so travelers from North America will notice a manageable time difference, usually 4–5 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time depending on the season. The local currency is the Icelandic Krona (ISK), though credit cards are widely accepted across the country even in remote towns and gas stations. With its unique mix of natural wonders, warm hospitality, and easy accessibility, Iceland is truly a destination like no other.

Stay in Style:  Hotel Jokulsarlon - Glacier Lagoon Hotel
Hotel Jökulsárlón – Glacier Lagoon Hotel is just minutes from Iceland’s famous Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach, making it an ideal base in the southeast. The hotel blends modern Scandinavian style with breathtaking views of glaciers, mountains, and sea. After a day of exploring, relax in the outdoor hot tubs or sauna, or enjoy a fresh, locally inspired meal at the on-site restaurant. With its cozy rooms and prime location near ice caves and hiking trails, it’s the perfect mix of comfort and adventure.

During our stay, my son Maxwell loved the chance to take his first cold plunge in the natural springs, followed by a very quick jump into the hot tub—a memory that made our time here extra special.

Taste Local Flavors: Lunch in a Greenhouse Fridheimar Farm

Taste Local Flavors: Lunch in a Greenhouse Fridheimar Farm
One of the most unique meals we enjoyed in Iceland was lunch inside the greenhouse at Friðheimar Farm. Surrounded by rows of vibrant tomato plants, the setting feels both cozy and extraordinary. Their specialty is freshly made tomato soup served with warm homemade bread, and you can even sip a refreshing tomato-based cocktail or dessert. It’s such a fun and authentic experience, combining Icelandic innovation with farm-to-table dining—that it’s become a favorite stop for both locals and travelers.

Don’t Miss This: Westman Island Adventure
One of our top favorite days in Iceland was taking our car on the ferry to Westman Island—a day that will forever be etched in our memory. We enjoyed a RIB boat tour, a magical way to see the island from the water, and got to witness puffins up close in their natural habitat. We also visited the Beluga Whale Sanctuary and explored hiking trails that offered more incredible wildlife and scenery. What made this day truly special was the lack of crowds, the laid-back vibe, and the breathtaking landscapes at every turn. If you’re planning a visit to Iceland, a day on Westman Island is an experience not to be missed.
