August has arrived, and somehow we have reached the final full month of official summer! This is the time of year to slow down just a little, soak in the sunshine, spend extra time outdoors, and make the most of those long summer days. Whether you are enjoying a backyard barbecue, escaping for a weekend getaway, relaxing at your favorite beach, or checking off a bucket-list vacation (which I hope I had the pleasure of helping you plan ), I hope you are taking in every moment and creating memories with the people who matter most.

Last month, my family and I had the opportunity to travel to Spain and Portugal, a wonderful mix of work and pleasure. We explored new destinations, experienced incredible food and culture, and of course came home with plenty of stories and inspiration to share. One of the highlights of our journey was our time in Porto, Portugal, which is why I am excited to feature it as this month’s Destination of the Month.

Located along the Douro River in northern Portugal, Porto is a city filled with charm, history, and unforgettable experiences. And I have to admit even after returning home, I find myself already dreaming about when I can go back. They welcomed us with such warmth and hospitality that we felt less like guests and more like we were sharing a meal in their own home. It was the perfect combination of great food, beautiful views, and the genuine connections that make travel so special.

Don’t Miss This: A Day Trip to the Douro Valley

One of the highlights of our time in Portugal was our day exploring the Douro Valley. We had a private driver for the day who took us through the breathtaking countryside, winding through rolling hills covered with vineyards and offering incredible views around every corner. We made our way to the beautiful area of Pinhão, where we enjoyed a relaxing boat ride along the Douro River and had the chance to truly take in the beauty and tranquility of this remarkable region.

After exploring the valley, we continued to Quinta da Pacheca for a wonderful wine tasting and lunch experience. Sitting among the vineyards, enjoying incredible Portuguese cuisine, and sharing a beautiful bottle of wine was the perfect way to end such a memorable day. I have to admit, I am not typically a Port wine drinker, but this experience may have completely changed my mind. The flavors, the setting, and the hospitality created a moment that will stay with me forever.
